This infographic was commissioned by the Social Justice Coalition. It aimed to explain the various stages associated with urban settlement upgrading developed by the UISP (Upgrading of Informal Settlement Programme).

One of its aims is to include communities in the upgrading process to reduce the disruption of upgrading, but also ensure communities are involved in the upgrading of their areas. The
UISP is meant to be incremental, where upgrading is done in four stages. The first three phases focus on community participation, supply of basic services and tenure security.

We created both a landscape and a portrait orientation for the infographic.
